2011 Ford Edge Showcased at the Chicago Auto Show on Lots Soon

Redesigned 2011 Ford Edge crossover is slated to arrive in showrooms this summer. The 2011 model features fresh front-end styling, updated cabin styling as well as an available MyFord Touch system. The 2011 Ford Edge also will offer three engine choices. The new base engine will be a 2.0-liter turbocharged, direct-injected four-cylinder featuring Ford's EcoBoost technology. The 3.5-liter V-6 from the previous Edge is more powerful and more fuel efficient than the 2010 model. In addition, a 305-horsepower, 3.7-liter V-6 is available.

The Next-Generation Explorer Will Feature Significant Fuel Economy

Ford Motor Company today announced it will produce the next-generation Ford Explorer SUV at the company�s Chicago Assembly Plant beginning in the fourth quarter of this year. The new version of Explorer, well-known SUV that once was one of Ford�s highest-flying models, will move to a unibody platform and gets at least 25% better gas mileage than the stagnant model it replaces.

Ford Motor Company Grabs 2010 Car and Truck of the Year Awards

DETROIT - Ford Fusion Hybrid won the 2010 North American Car of the Year award, and Ford Transit Connect got the Best Truck award. Winning both of these prestigious awards is confirmation that the ONE Ford plan is working. Ford was the only domestic automaker to gain market share last year. Largely because of improved reliability and fuel economy. The last time one automaker took home both awards was in 2007 when General Motors won with the Saturn Aura sedan and the Chevrolet Silverado pick-up.

Ford Fusion Hybrid 1,000 Mile Challenge: Ford Hybrids Racking Up Sales and Mileage

The 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid was put to the ultimate fuel-efficiency test earlier this year. A team of drivers, including racing star Carl Edwards and world-record breaking hypermiler Wayne Gerdes, drove more than 1,000 miles on a single tank of gas, raising money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in the process. Not only does this demonstrate the Fusion Hybrid�s fuel efficiency, it also shows that driving technique is one of the keys to maximizing its potential.

While hybrid sales across the industry are down 14 percent, sales of Ford hybrid cars and SUVs are up 73 percent. More than 60 percent of these Ford hybrid customers previously owned an import car. The taxi companies in New York and San Francisco are using Ford hybrids, racking up 300,000 miles on them before retiring them.

Ford�s strong 2009 hybrid sales have been fueled by the introduction of the Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan hybrids, the most fuel-efficient midsize sedans on the road. Both vehicles deliver an EPA-estimated 41 mpg rating in the city and 36 mpg on the highway, topping the Toyota Camry hybrid by 8 mpg in the city and 2 mpg on the highway.

The Escape Hybrid has proven particularly popular with Ford customers operating taxi, lifeguard and government fleets, due to the combination of fuel efficiency and durability. The front-wheel-drive Escape Hybrid delivers an EPA-estimated 34 mpg in city driving and 30 mpg on the highway, making it the most fuel-efficient SUV on the market.

Ford Is Now Making Some Vehicles With World-Class Reliability.

According to a customer survey conducted by Consumer Reports, 46 of 51 Ford, Lincoln or Mercury models have better or average quality. Mercury was the only Detroit brand to finish in the top 10. The four-cylinder versions of the Fusion and Milan outscored Toyota Camry and Honda Accord, the two top-selling cars in the U.S. Ford's Detroit-area competitors, General Motors Co. and Chrysler Group LLC, didn't fare as well.

"Ford is definitely doing something right," said Rik Paul, Consumer Reports' automotive editor.

The reasons why Ford is doing good is:

- The stability at Ford played a huge part - The workers at Ford clearly went through a trying year, but nothing compared to the folks at GM and Chrysler.

- Tweaking established platforms, not starting new - Ford has been able to concentrate on refining the process, not starting from scratch.

Ford Plans To Use Electric Power Trains And Smaller Engines To Improve Fuel Economy

To meet new CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) regulations, Ford plans to use electric power trains and smaller engines to improve fuel economy while offering a full range of vehicles. The federal government will require a fleet average of 35.5 mpg (currently 25.3 mpg) in the 2016 model year.

Ford's powertrain strategy:

Electric Vehicles / Hybrids - Ford added hybrids for the Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan sedans, joining the Ford Escape Hybrid and Mercury Mariner Hybrid crossovers. An electric Transit Connect commercial van in 2010 and an electric Focus is planned for the next year. Ford is planning a plug-in hybrid and the next generation of full hybrid models in 2012.

EcoBoost - EcoBoost combines direct fuel injection and turbo charging for four and six cylinder engines. It will increase fuel economy up to 20 percent and will be available in 90 percent of Ford's models by 2013.

Four-Cylinder Engines - Ford will offer more four-cylinder gasoline engines. By 2013, Ford intends to double its four-cylinder engine volume. It will offer a four-cylinder option for every car and crossover even in the F-150 truck.

V-8 Engines - Eight-cylinder engines will be limited to large trucks and specialty cars such as the Mustang - Shelby version.

Diesel Engines - To improve the fuel economy, Ford has diesel engines developed in Europe available. Those engines are not being used because of their higher cost compared with gasoline engines.
